We wanted to especially do this event on March 8th which is Women's International Day. We held career workshops for high school girls. By providing guest speakers they were able to explore different career options and learn about different careers.
Our Guest Speakers
Angela Sanchez-Program Analyst for College Success at ECMC Foundation
Mariah Martinez- Software Engineer at Virtual Masons LLC
Mera Baker- Attorney at a real estate firm called patch of land
Rachel Huguet-Master in public policy candidate at USC and president at USC Price women and allies
Ashley Franklin-Activist for fight for the soul of the cities which focuses on dismantling discrimination in black communities
The Impact!
Many of these women also shared their experiences on how they got to their career. The audience also was able to ask the guest speakers any questions and also many shared their contact information.
Our audience
We had exit tickets filled out by every individual who attended the event. In our exit tickets we had a section that gave them the option to write:
" 3 things I learned from the workshop"
"Questions"
"comment feedback"
Here are a few things said by them . . . . .
Zitlalli Sanchez- " You should thrive for what you want"
Ana Mendez- " In most offices men have the high power"
Iris Ramirez- "Throughout any circumstances in life anyone is able to get an education.
Stephanie Gutierrez- "No obstacle is to big to overcome"
Janeth Hernandez- " The STEM pathway is where women are wanted"
Juan Carlos Reyes - " Don't be afraid to take risks- Do what you want"
Kayonnie Irby-" Women are strong and powerful"
Clarissa Martinez- " Stand up for yourself"
These comments were and are important to us because we feel like with programs like Girls Build Los Angeles, women of all ages are empowered and are able to bring out the best of themselves because in the end that is what we strive for.
